RÉSUMÉ / ARGUMENTAIRE
Il y a longtemps, le grand Glooscap créa le peuple mi’kmaq dans le
territoire actuel des provinces de l’Atlantique. Puis le Maître interrogea
les animaux de la région, qui étaient alors gigantesques, afin de connaître
leurs intentions envers les humains. Selon leur réponse, il réduisit la force
des uns, diminua la taille des autres, en chassa d’autres au loin. Voulant
échapper à ses questions, le castor construisit un énorme barrage pour se
cacher, mais Glooscap détruisit le barrage et transforma ainsi le paysage du
Nouveau-Brunswick.
Une légende venue des temps anciens, qui explique comment Glooscap
donna naissance au peuple mi’kmaq et assura l’harmonie sur la terre.

A long time ago, the all-powerful Glooscap created the Mi’kmaq people in the present Atlantic
Provinces. Then the great man questioned the animals of this region, who were at that time gigantic,
to find out their intentions concerning human beings. According to their replies, he lessened the
strength of some, shrank the size of others and drove still others far away.Wishing to escape being
questioned, the beaver built a huge dam to hide behind, but Glooscap destroyed the dam and in that
way transformed the New Brunswick landscape.
This is a legend from long ago, which explains how Glooscap created the Mi’kmaq people and
guaranteed harmony on earth.
